Major problems in South wales (again)

All trains halted in south Wales by power failure Arriva Trains Wales says all trains in south Wales are on stop because of a major power failure affecting a large area.

Power went out around 0730 GMT at Bridgend, Barry, Cardiff and in the valleys up to Caerphilly. It means trains have stopped running.

A spokesman said: "If the power fails everything goes red, nothing moves until the power is restored

"It will also affect mainline trains. This is extremely rare."

The spokesman said Network Rail was investigatiing the reason for the power failure.

I just missed this as i was on the 07:10 train from Pyle to Swansea

Swansea was certainly caotic, all platforms full with 2 hst's and at least 4 class 175's, situation wasnt helped by the electronic boards failing as well.

Some trains are running but a few cancellations

Reminds me of November 2009 - thursday night - all the power went out at oxford then didcot then swindon and I stayed over in reading because the bus wouldnt get me back to worcester until nearly midnight and I needed to be on the 0530 next morning

Day that effectively ended my relationship

Interesting it was spokesman from Arriva Trains Wales that appeared on PM tonight. not Networkrail person even though it was presumably a Networkrail problem.

i hope the new TV Siganlling Centre has adequate power back up. Directly plugged into the power station?

The travelling public are not (directly) Network Rail customers, it is the TOC^▸ that bare the brunt of passanger frustration

I do hope not the fault level from a 500MW power station would fry the main switchboard if there were a fault. There will be multiple power supply systems at Didcot the DNO^▸ being the principle source with UPS systems and Diesel generators all these will end up somewhere on a change over panel possibly 2 while it is rare for change over panels to fail there is still a risk but its very small
