From FGW▸ Website Line problem between Plymouth and Penzance.
Train services between Plymouth and Penzance are being disrupted due to a derailed train.Short notice alterations and delays of up to 60 minutes can be expected.
Road Transport is currently being resourced.

Freight loco derailed on or near up main whilst running round train at Lostwithiel. All lines closed thru station. No reports of injury.
14:49 ex PNZ will terminate @Par
12:06 ex PAD» terminated @ Liskeard c 15:36
Closure likely to be lengthy :-(

This within aprox 40 mins of incident being reported. Time for a 'Well Done' FGW▸ I think.

ADDITIONAL TRAIN SERVICE
Left LSK 16:17, due PLY» 16:52, calls ALL stations.
Intending passengers can use ALL TOC▸ services between Lostwithiel and Bristol TM‡ in both directions.
Update 16:30
17:55 ex PLY to PNZ will now start from PAR @18:45. Calls all stations. Due PNZ 19:54

A friend has just put on his facebook, "can anyone pick my wife from Liskeard, train derailment near lostwithiel is the excuse, utter chaos, not enough buses available for everyone, no info available for when there will be enough buses"

As I am sure you are aware - it isn't exactly possible to make a load of buses magicly appear.
Trains should resume soon - however be reduced service - looking at doing single line working.

FGW▸ have come up with some new terminology on their Website. The description being "an empty non-FGW train. Would it not have been easier to just have said "Freight train" So many reasons for delays seem to be covered over these days.

For goodness sake!
A derailment is not an excuse, it is a very real fact. In this case, nothing to do with FGW▸
To source a fleet of buses at school home time is a feat in itself. The reported chaos however, shows what would happen if the train wasn't there at all.
Single line working via the goods loop is now in place, but of course, exhaustive safety checks have to be carried out before this can happen.
Shame that some appear not to appreciate the skill and professionalism which has obviously gone into this admittedly 'work around' solution.

I have not suggested an excuse whatsoever but merely commented on terminology and not in any way attempting to take away appreciation of the efforts of people concerned with handling the situation and doing their best possible to enable passengers to make their journeys with the least delay. I have no wish to enter a slanging match but this was merely an observation without attempt to detract from the incident..

On looking at FGW▸ Website, it would appear that SLW is in operation as a number of services are quoted as running as planned but with the obvious delay but others terminating/restarting Liskeard or Par. No Cross Country west of Plymouth for rest of day.

Apologies Maxwell for being annoyed about your post.
I fully suspect it to be my post. Which as i stated in the post was a copy from a friends facebook who was caught up in the delays. And yes i'm fully aware buses dont magic up, what is the capacity of a train, an average coach is 49 seats, with no standees. |

Nope, not having a pop at anyone on the boards. The reaction of a 'friend' did annoy me though, particularly as so much was done to mitigate the effects of the incident. Let's call the capacity of a Standard saloon around 70 seated with scope for several more standees BTW▸
