What's up with the 18:33 Reading - Penzance tonight

I made the connection to this train but only because it is very late and is now being diverted via Melksham. Does anyone know what is going on? I couldn't find anything on National Rail enquires or the FGW^▸ site.

I think you may know the answer to this now! The 1736 from Reading to BTM^▸ broke down near Reading West. The moment I heard the "will the train manager please contact the driver" announcment I knew there was a good chance we would be stuck there for some time...

But apparently because we were delayed over an hour we are entitled to a refund but I'm not sure how that works on a weekly ticket.

The refund on a weekly season is worked out in the same way as a daily return, but based on a seventh of the price paid for the week.

The rules are on page 22 of the charter booklet - they vary depending on the service type, ie former FGW^▸ , Thames Trains or Wessex Trains - just to be more complex than necessary... Roll Eyes

And the 1736 from Reading (1706 ex Paddington) to Bristol Temple Meads is neither a former Great Western or Great Western Link service. It's new and arguably a combination of both!

That said, the compensation arrangements are similar. I believe if you hold a weekly season, the amount due for a delay of an hour or more will be (x^7)^2 where x is the face value of the weekly season.
