I've a quick query..just in case anyone knows the answer easily.. Next week I need to travel from Reading to Paddington (off peak).. I currently have First Class season ticket from Maidenhead to Paddington (it's first class as train service is sooo over full currently).. Could I buy a first class from Reading to Maidenhead but still travel on a non-stop train (Reading to Paddington) since my travelcard covers me the rest of the way? Or do I need to be on a train that stops at Maidenhead? Or if not can I just get a non stop train and then go and sit in First class as we go (very fast) through Maidenhead? Thanks in advance  |

Combining a season ticket with a non-season tickets allows you travel non-stop through the station where the tickets join. As per NRCoC▸ Condition 19(c): 19. Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire
journey and one of the following applies:
(a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
(b) the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one
ticket to another; or
(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include
Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport
executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

If you have an annual gold card you may find it cheaper to do the upgrade (aslong as you travel after 10 and don't return between 4 and 7)

Thanks Justin..  And in reply to the question re annual Gold Card. .I don't have one of those currently.. Just a monthly ticket from Maidenhead to London all zones.. |

oh I didn't realise that! damn. I have a season ticket that starts at Newbury Racecourse all the way into London Paddington (same price as if you bought from Reading).
So if I am travelling on a fast non-stop train from Reading to Newbury - I just need to pay the fare from Newbury Racecourse to Newbury?

You forgot a bit. A quite important one at that: Provided one of the tickets you are using is a season and none of the others are, the train doesn't need to stop where you change tickets.

Yes TJ is quite right. If you have two Seasons to named stations then the train does have to call at the split point.

When I tried to buy the ticket from Reading to Maidenhead I was told I could only travel on a train that stopped at Maidenhead so I was very glad I asked for advice on here first.. I mentioned that I'd been told it would be ok and eventually they agreed.. Mind you I should have just bought the ticket if I knew it was valid.. And the best bit.. There was no ticket check anyway...  |
