nice to see FGW (First Great Western) doing ticket checks on Platform 8/9 this morning. They've setup barriers to channel people towards ticket checkers.

Good flow of people and no major hold-ups, amazing to see the number of people without tickets.

Yeah I thought the same.. I did wonder what the barriers were for as we were pulling into Paddington although it became obvious when I saw them checking tickets..

Quite a few BNP (Barnstaple station (in the context of the railways)) as well, I mean BTP (British Transport Police) as backup to the ticket checkers, the other morning.

Quite a few BTP (British Transport Police) as backup to the ticket checkers, the other morning.

I have edit the struck through text the quoted by me because it is unwarranted.

There are people who think it is their right not to have a valid ticket and will become very offensive to staff and it is not unheard of to become violent hence the Police.  You cannot take a stereotypical view that because someone looks like a yob they don't have a ticket and the chap in smart suit has a ticket I have seen at Waterloo some very well turned out be-suited men become very agitated because they have been caught.

Thanks for your balanced observation, Electric train.  Lips sealed

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
