D.  Your signwriter has put each word on a separate panel and then the panels in the second column slipped down one level while the paint was drying.  At least he didn't give up and put the second words back at random before displaying the signs.  Mind you he did miss out the "b" in "Clarbeston".

Correct - and sadly he then overcorrected:

Correct - I should have included Not Nuat to make this a classic quiz, should I not?

Ah, but you got it into E:
Pilning
Taunton
Denmark Hill
Sugar Loaf
Diss
Blackburn
Valley

The simplest of substitution cyphers, replacing each letter by its successor in the alphabet, but complicated by doing the vowels and consonants separately (to conserve pronounceability, no doubt).

The list at B has been bugging me all day.

I think they are all cryptic crossword clues - but I cannot work out two of them (Platecomb and Brownshout).

So this might be (in football terms) an "assist" to someone who can crack the last two and claim the honour, but I think the rest are-

1 - Gainsborough
2 - Coatbridge
5 - Overton
6 - Hyde
7 - Redcar

I had a different answer to no.5, you are correct on the others. I can remember what no.4 is supposed to be but !oops! I am trying to remember how I came up with "Platecomb" and I, too, could do with an assist.  I'm sure I'll remember when someone gets it right!

I think 4 could be Greenock. Stumped by 3 (to continue the sporting analogies!).

It is - and for Uber I had Hackney (rather than Overton).  Also still stumped by my own No. 3 - Platecomb.

The obvious possibilities are Cupar and Bowling but not sure how you get the second part of the word in either case.
